Group Marriage (Samuhik Vivah): A Step Toward Equality, Simplicity, and Social Upliftment
In a world where weddings are often associated with extravagant celebrations, heavy expenses, and social pressure, group marriage—also known as Samuhik Vivah—emerges as a noble, inclusive, and practical alternative. This concept not only simplifies the wedding process but also relieves families from financial burdens and promotes social equality. Group marriages are now increasingly supported by NGOs, government programs, and social reformers as a way to encourage community harmony and discourage the dowry system.
Group marriage, or Samuhik Vivah, is a social event where multiple couples get married at the same time and place, following their respective customs and religious traditions. These events are organized by charitable organizations, community leaders, or local governments with the aim of supporting underprivileged families, especially those who cannot afford the high costs of a traditional wedding.
Each couple is given equal attention, blessings, and dignity. The ceremonies are often held in public spaces like community halls, school grounds, or temples, and all arrangements—including food, decorations, rituals, and gifts—are typically taken care of by the organizers.
